Caledonia Waterfalls
The prettiest short walk in the Troodos: a shaded trail that follows a cold mountain stream up through pine and plane trees to a waterfall dropping some twelve metres — a genuine rarity on a hot Mediterranean island. A homesick Scottish expedition named it Caledonia in 1878 because the tumbling water and green gorge reminded them of home. The path up from the Psilo Dendro trout restaurant near Platres is a gentle-ish hour, criss-crossing the water on little wooden bridges, ending where the spray keeps everything mossy and cool even in August. It's the perfect antidote to the beaches — bring a layer, it's honestly cooler up here.
